New women’s network launches at Fawley site
A network for women working at the Fawley Refinery and Petrochemical Plant has been created to improve understanding of the issues they face during their careers and to help them reach their potential.
Retaining, developing and boosting the company’s female workers is critical for the future success of the business.
The Fawley Women’s Interest Network (WIN) is the latest European initiative to build on the success of similar groups throughout the company’s US sites.
The group’s mission is to support professional development and personal growth, so that women reach their full potential. It identifies and discusses the issues specific to the Fawley site, near Southampton, to work out what is needed to address challenges.
Supported by a female mentor, the WIN comprises employees from different functions across the site, at different stages of their working and personal lives – together, they understand the challenges that every age group faces.
Lunchtime forums allow employees to learn more about company policies and the support available, with guest speakers giving their personal experiences of career development.
Since many of the initiatives are common to all of the networks, the wider European WIN leadership teams meet twice a year to share resources and ideas.
And it’s not just women who are welcome to join the WIN. Male employees have expressed interest in some of the issues and initiatives, such as work/life balance and being a working parent.
