Fostering new engineering talent at SAGE gas plant
Undergraduates visiting one of ExxonMobil’s Scottish facilities have gained a deeper understanding of good engineering practice, while the company has forged links with the next generation of engineers.
Some 26 students from the University of Aberdeen visited the Scottish Area Gas Evacuation (SAGE) terminal to support their academic studies.
Two groups of third-year chemical engineering students visited the gas plant in St Fergus to see theory in action, as well as learn about the safety and security requirements of an operational site.
The University of Aberdeen chemical engineering degree course only began in 2006 and most of the visitors were stepping foot on to a real process plant for the first time, seeing equipment that they had previously only read about in textbooks.
ExxonMobil arranged the visits as part of its commitment to encouraging young people to follow chemical engineering and other science, technology, engineering and maths subjects as a career choice.
